5 DIY Projects that Will Improve Your Home’s Value

The great thing about doing DIY projects around your home is that they can potentially increase the value of your home at a minimal cost. This is especially great if you’re planning on selling in the future. Because most of these projects only require some basic equipment, you won’t have to buy all kinds of fancy tools that you’ll only use once.

If you’re interested, keep reading to see 5 DIY projects that can increase the value of your home.

1. Update/Add to Landscaping

For starters, you can update or add to the exterior and landscaping of your home. The great thing is that the sky is the limit with this area, and there are so many different things you can do! Honestly, if you can think of it, you can probably do it. Not only do you want to focus on the plants, but you also want to focus on physical things.

For the plants, you could remove any weeds or dead parts from existing shrubbery and you could add some new flowers or plants. In terms of physical items, you can add things like a bird bath or beautiful fountains. You can buy the parts and put it together using simple tools, such as a scroll saw. Remember, you don’t want to add so much stuff that your yard looks cluttered or messy. Add just enough to really give it a beautiful touch without overcrowding the space.

2. Paint the Inside

The next thing you can do is extremely easy and shouldn’t cost too much. You can paint the interior of your house. The great thing is that you can paint different rooms different colors and maybe even put some different kinds of designs on them, such as an abstract design. Keep in mind, there are a few rules you should follow.

For starters, you want to paint rooms that will be seen the most, such as the living room or kitchen, a soft color like brown. These rooms will really pop if you paint the ceiling a color that is a little bit lighter than the walls. The other rooms, such as bedrooms, can be painted colors that are a little brighter. Even with that being the case, you don’t want something too bright because you never know what various seller’s preferences are. You could go with a nice pale purple or blue.

3. Change Light Fixtures

You might not realize it, but leaving older light fixtures when you’re redoing things like the paint can actually result in the room not looking as good as it can. There’s even the chance that it could make the room look worse. These are the reasons you want to make sure you replace the light fixtures at the same time you decide to paint.

In the rooms that will be seen the most, you’ll want to stick with fixtures that are simple and don’t have too much going on. You have a little bit more freedom in the rooms that are hidden away, but you want to make sure you don’t go too crazy because you don’t want to run the risk of having a hard time actually selling the house.

4. Update Flooring

Just like leaving old fixtures, leaving old flooring when updating your home can ruin the entire room or look that you’re going for. This is especially true if you’ve had the same flooring for multiple years because it can easily get beaten and worn down. If you want to stick with carpet, you should go with something that’s a neutral color but won’t stain easily, such as blue. Going with this option costs much less than other types of flooring and it’s usually a lot easier to install.

You could also go with wood or vinyl flooring. The best thing to do is just consider what will appeal to most people and what won’t cost an arm and a leg to install since you won’t actually be living at the home. Spend enough so it looks nice, but not so much that you’re going to be out of money.

5. Change Fixtures in Other Areas

Finally, you want to change various fixtures in other areas. This includes things such as faucets and sinks. Since you’re updating the rest of your home, there’s no reason why these other fixtures should be left alone. You don’t want to do all kinds of work on your home only for it to be for nothing. Keep in mind, don’t get fixtures that have designs that are too crazy and remember to spend enough to make everything look great but not actually put you in the whole. Set a strict budget and make sure you stick to it!

These 5 projects are pretty easy to do and they’ll help make your home worth more. If you’re planning on selling your home, there’s also the added bonus of being able to enjoy the projects before that happens! Now you can start building and sprucing up your home as soon as possible!
